INTERNATIONAL BACCALAURATE PROGRAM
Gimnasio del Norte is one of the eleven schools in Colombia that belong to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), whose administrative office is located in Geneva, Switzerland. This organization was founded in 1968 with the only purpose of providing a demanding pre-college curriculum to prepare the students to enroll in the best universities in the world and at the same time to meet the national and international educational requirements.
The program requires that the students develop abilities in their native language, a second language, sciences, mathematics and/or arts.
The students who aspire to obtain the international baccalaureate diploma not only have to meet the requirements mentioned above but they have to pass exams assigned by IBO representatives, participate in the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program, conduct a research of personal interest, of about 4,000 words and take a course on “Theory of Knowledge”, exploring the types of knowledge and the relationship between the different areas of knowledge.
Gimnasio del Norte belongs to this organization since 1992 and has developed the international baccalaureate program and its process of external evaluation, as a commitment to the students in each educational level, preparing them to excel in the challenges they face every day.
Currently, 1979 universities in the world automatically accept students who have obtained the IB diploma and/or give them appropriate college credits for the subjects taken under this modality.
